EBTEC's high energy beam processes are ideal for precision medical products, whose detailed manufacturing requirements preclude welding or machining by conventional methods. Our capabilities and experience in the production of medical devices make possible many of the advanced instruments and implants used by leading doctors, dentists, and research scientists worldwide.
We have a dedicated Medical Production Department with staff and multi-axis lasers used exclusively for medical applications. Our in-house engineering resources can help with product development, including design-for-manufacture, short run development, fabrication, and high volume production. EBTEC processes are so precise that parts which have been welded, cut or drilled are cosmetically appealing and generally require no additional finishing.
The use of energy beam processes, electron beam and laser, provides medical device manufacturers the means to meet exacting standards of quality at low costs. Timely development of applications and the ability to initiate high production with minimal tooling costs gets new products to market faster.
Electron Beam Welding
The complete vacuum environment in which EB welding takes place assures contaminant-free weld conditions, ideal for welding of titanium and stainless steel surgical implements. Welds have a high ratio of depth-to-width and are stronger than conventional welds. Dissimilar materials may be joined. Applications include:
Implanted drug delivery pumps
Artificial joints
Anesthesia heaters
Specialized surgical and dental instruments
Trocar devices made from extrusions
Forceps with integral suction tubes
Components for blood and urinalysis equipment
Surgical cutters and implements
Rib spreaders
Surgical clamps and metallic clips

Laser Welding
Lasers create precise, high integrity joints with a finished cosmetic appearance. EBTEC can easily weld an entire joint, sealing off any open points or gaps where contaminants could enter. Small medical components which would be destroyed by the heat input of conventional welding are laser welded easily. Dissimilar materials may be joined. Applications include:
Stents and angioplasty devices
Surgical staplers
Small hypodermic tubes
Endoscopic components
Shaft/tip assemblies, bone cutters
Orthodontic tools and bearings
Palate expanders
Surgical component devices
Non-incisive biopsy devices and cutters
Cataract surgical devices
